General admission notice

The admission notice is published each year between April and May.

All candidates holding a Master’s degree or equivalent foreign degree (with a duration of at least 4 years) without distinction of age or citizenship are eligible to apply. Those who have not yet obtained their degree by the deadline of the announcement may also apply, provided the degree is awarded by 30 September.

The Selection Committee evaluates the submitted qualifications, research project proposal and interview, if any, then assigns a score based on which a ranking list will be drawn up.

Ordinary grants (about 10 each year) are awarded according to the position of candidates and applicants in the ranking list. In addition to the regular fellowship, other fellowships are announced each year on specific research programs described in the announcement or funded by external entities.

Foreign applicants who have already been awarded a fellowship of at least 3 years’ duration, issued by an international scientific committee (e.g. Marie Curie or Erasmus Mundus fellowships), and who wish to be admitted to this doctoral program, may apply for supernumerary admission.

China Scholarship Council

Since 2014, the University of Padua and the China Scholarship Council (CSC) have established a joint programme through which scholarships are call-funded each year. This initiative offers high-achieving Chinese citizens the opportunity to pursue a PhD programme at the University of Padua.

The programme is the result of extensive research connections that the University of Padua has developed with numerous Chinese research institutions and universities. Successful applicants will be jointly supported by a Chinese scholarship (on behalf of the Chinese Ministry of Education) and the University of Padua.
