Joint supervision agreements

The PhD programme in Historical, Geographical, and Anthropological Studies actively promotes internationalisation by offering PhD students the opportunity to establish joint supervision agreements with prestigious institutions abroad. Established collaborations include Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University, the École Pratique des Hautes Études (EPHE), the University of Salamanca, and the University of São Paulo (USP) in Brazil. These agreements enable students to obtain a joint or double doctoral degree following a research period at the partner institution, under the joint supervision of faculty members from both universities.

The international focus is also reflected in the incoming dimension: the programme regularly welcomes international joint-supervision PhD students, whose participation in educational activities and seminars enriches the research environment with global and multicultural scientific perspectives.

Strategic Partnerships

In recent years, the programme has consolidated a high-profile strategic partnership with the Università di St Andrews, one of the most renowned institutions in the United Kingdom. This collaboration results in the organisation of joint seminars and regular exchange programmes involving PhD students and faculty members from both universities. The objective is to foster continuous scientific dialogue and create opportunities for international networking of excellence.

Internationalisation Project 2025–2027

Thanks to funding obtained from the Cariparo Foundation through a specific competitive call, the programme has launched an ambitious three-year project aimed at enhancing its global reach. The initiative supports international mobility—both within the framework of joint supervisions and for research stays lasting at least six months—and promotes the organisation of international workshops and seminars, further consolidating the programme’s network of scientific collaborations worldwide.
