The History faculties of the University of Padua and St Andrews organise the joint seminar on ‘Communication and Power’. The initiative will bring together doctoral students and faculty members from both institutions, creating opportunities for intellectual dialogue.
On January 15th the first seminar of this joint initiative will be hosted in Padua, aiming to facilitate academic exchange and collaboration between the Doctoral Programmes in History at the University of Padua and the University of St. Andrews. The second event will take place in St Andrews on May. The initiative is funded by seed money from both institutions.
Historians have commonly used the phrase ‘communication and power’ to refer to how historical actors from different geographical, social and cultural contexts deploy different media – such as oral communication, engravings, artistic productions, handwritten and printed texts – to pursue strategies of dominance, political collaboration and/or resistance. By exploring the overarching theme of ‘communication and power’ together, through time and space, participants will explore the complexities of historical analysis and interpretation by using a range of historical sources.
